This page provides helpful information about how to use the Mauritius Ocean Observatory E-platform (E-platform). You can use the sidebar links to navigate to what you want to know.
The User Manual provides detailed instructions and information on using the E-platform effectively.
For more detailed instructions and information on navigating the E-platform, please visit the GeoNode website, which serves as the foundation for the E-platform.
Please read the Terms of Use before using the E-platform. It contains important information about the rights and obligations when using the E-platform as well as when contributing data that could be distributed on the E-platform.
There are three types of data on the E-platform: Datasets, Documents and Maps.
Datasets serve as the primary content of the E-platform. They are publishable resources representing a raster or vector spatial data source which can be associated with metadata. Datasets can be both local datasets in the E-platform as well as remote datasets either served from other WMS servers or by web service datasets.
Documents are files such as reports, publications, presentations, short movies, images and much more. They can be associated with metadata and linked to specific datasets or maps.
Maps serve as the primary content of the E-platform. Maps contain one or more published datasets, organized in a structured manner, and superimposed onto a base map for enhanced visualization and analysis. The published maps can be associated with metadata and shared.
The metadata associated with a resource includes critical details necessary for identifying and understanding the resource.
From the E-platform homepage, you can use the search box in the navigation bar (see the picture below) to find datasets, maps and documents that contain any matching text in the associated metadata.
You can access all datasets, documents and maps available to you using the tab Data > Datasets, Data > Documents and Maps respectively
To facilitate access, data on the E-platform have been categorized into nine marine data themes:
The category buttons (see figure below) provide a convenient means to filter and search for datasets, maps and documents categorized under the specific themes.
You can order the list of data by date, name or popularity.
You can use on the top left of the page to customise your search by:
Datasets can be downloaded in a variety of formats, for use in other applications. Some Datasets may be viewable but not downloadable.
The Advanced users page is the place for developers to get started building applications against the GeoNode. It includes instructions on using the web services, links to the source code of the GeoNode, and information about the open source projects used to create it.
